Understanding the Root Canal Procedure

Root canal therapy may be your best option if you have a severe toothache or extreme sensitivity to hot and cold.
Here’s what you can expect to happen when you arrive at our High Point dental office for a root canal:
- On the day of your procedure, we will begin by administering a local anesthetic, completely numbing your tooth and the surrounding gum tissue. Once your mouth is numb, you won’t feel anything.
- Then, we’ll make a small hole in your tooth to access the infected area. We’ll clean and sterilize the inside of our tooth and its canals.
- For the next step, we’ll place a rubbery material, gutta-percha, into your tooth; this will keep any bacteria from entering the area.
- If your tooth needs a permanent crown, we’ll create it in our office with our 3-D printer while you wait comfortably in your treatment room. Before you know it, you’ll be able to get back to your normal activities.
